Huskies Football Cards Hit the Street

29 August, 2012

Huskies Football fans will soon have more than memories of the last great play to trade. They'll have trading cards.

In preparation for the 2012-13 season the team has produced a set of 80 collectible trading cards. The cards feature a player on the front and the football schedule on the back.

“We’re very excited to start this new initiative. Our team photographer Joe Chrvala came up with the idea and we think it’s a great way to get our guys out in the community and share our schedule with the city,” said Head Coach Perry Marchese.

The cards will be distributed at home games and at select businesses across Halifax, including Bubba Ray’s Sports Bar.

Chrvala works with University security. He is passionate about football and has taken football photography courses across Canada. The cards were designed by the team’s video coordinator, Colin Sutton, a member of the University ITSS team.

“Since our Old Dogs have been gracious enough to pay for the cards to be printed, our players will match that cost with a donation to Tribal Dreams, an athletic camp for aboriginal youth run by our former player Leroy Fontaine,” said Marchese.

The first home game of the season will be played on September 15 against Sherbrooke. View the complete schedule online and keep your eyes peeled around Halifax for your chance to trade players like a pro. You can also order a complete set of cards for $20, with proceeds going to Tribal Dreams, by e-mailing Joe Chrvala.
