Email at Saint Mary's is Changing: Here's What You Need to Know

For students and alumni, smu.ca email addresses are about to become a thing of the past.
Many of you have told us you’d rather use an email account of your choice; we’re listening. We’re discontinuing your smu.ca email accounts in an effort to communicate with you better using your preferred email account.
Here’s what the change means for you:
Students who don’t have a smu.ca address yet will no longer be receiving a smu.ca email account as part of their student computer services. Instead, they’ll need to provide another email address they’d like to use to receive communication from Saint Mary’s. Any active email address will work.
Students with a smu.ca address need to provide another email address they’d like to use to receive communication from Saint Mary’s. Any active email address will work. They also need to log in to SMUPort mail and forward any emails they wish to keep to another email address before October 15, 2010 when the student smu.ca accounts will be closed.
Alumni who already have a smu.ca email account from their days as a student will need to choose another email address they’d like to use to receive communication from Saint Mary’s. An email address already being used at home or work will do. They can make the change on the Alumni home page.
Staff and faculty will be keeping their smu.ca email addresses.
To update your account and tell us the email address you’d like Saint Mary’s to use from now on, visit: https://activate.smu.ca (You’ll need your Banner PIN and ID to make the change.)
But hurry, you only have until October 15, 2010 to make the change.
After that, you’ll be missing out on emails from anyone who is trying to reach you at your smu.ca address, including the university.
